Program Overview
The Methamphetamine Cleanup Program (MCP) is responsible for establishing cleanup standards and procedures that must be followed to remove a listed property from the Contaminated Properties List. Montana Code Annotated Title 75, chapter 10, part 13, Methamphetamine Contamination-Indoor Property Decontamination Standards (2005), requires the establishment of decontamination standards and procedures for decontamination of contaminated properties as they are reported to MCP by law enforcement.
These properties are posted on the MCP webpage, where the information is accessible to the public. In addition, MCP works with property owners, contractors, and local health officials to remediate methamphetamine contamination of listed properties. In accordance with Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM) 17.74.500, MCP certifies cleanup contractors and approves training providers, course materials, and instructors. MCP also reviews and approves all site assessments, decontamination, and clearance plans of listed properties.
MCP reviews the final assessment, decontamination, and clearance reports. If the cleanup standard has been met, MCP will issue a Certificate of Fitness to the property owner and remove the property from the Contaminated Properties List.
To report a spill or environmental concern or submit a complaint to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), please use this link. The Enforcement Program staff will follow up with you if more information is needed to open an investigation.
